Endorsements are needed for those who want to have a some form of certification for their skills acquired and needed in their profession. For example, if you want an endorsement as a Special Education teacher, then you would need to get a special education endorsement online. An endorsement would mean that you are well equipped in skills and knowledge when it comes to handling kids with special education needs. There is also a particular emphasis on how you can help the kids perform well in a regular school setup. Most endorsements online would require you around 24 quarter hours of course work, with special subjects on tests and methods for psychological diagnosis, teaching pupils with low incidence disabilities and how to handle exceptional learners (not all that go to special schools are difficult to teach). This may be sometimes referred to as an LBS1 endorsement. In applying for a special education endorsement online, note that you are required to have at least 10 hours of field experience in most schools. You need to be a practicing special education instructor to qualify for the endorsement since practical solutions are often encountered on a case to case basis. The endorsement requirements may also change on a per state basis so it is best to check with the school where you are applying for the complete list of prerequisites and requirements. Another good thing about endorsements is that during the course of the process, you are bound to be in touch with fellow teachers around the world undergoing the same thing so there’s knowledge sharing and exchange in the process.
